Rudy Adolf

Founder, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman

Rudy founded Focus in 2004 to advance the vision of leading independent, entrepreneurial wealth management firms and support them in what they do best – provide high quality advice to their clients – with additional support for growth; all without the limitations of traditional wirehouses. A recognized industry expert, Rudy frequently speaks at industry events and helps partner firms strategically grow their practices. He has been a member of the Focus board of directors since its formation in 2015.

From 1998 to 2003, Rudy served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the American Express Global Brokerage and Banking division. Prior to this role, Rudy was the Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Development. Before joining American Express, Rudy was a partner at McKinsey & Company.

When not working, Rudy is an avid world traveler and enjoys skiing – including heli-skiing – with his wife, two sons and daughter.

Rudy holds a Mag. iur. and a Dr. iur. from the University of Innsbruck, Austria.

Rajini Sundar Kodialam

Co-Founder, Chief Operating Officer and Director

Rajini is a co-founder of Focus and responsible for acquisition, relationship management and value-added initiatives across the firm.

Prior to founding Focus, Rajini worked at American Express where she managed interactive services for the U.S. Consumer Card and Travel businesses. Prior to joining American Express, she was with McKinsey & Company.

Rajini loves to cook, experiment with xeric gardening in her Austin home and aspires to write a sci-fi novel. Rajini holds an MBA from Columbia Business School in New York, a PGDM from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and a B.A. from Delhi University, India.

Lenny R. Chang

Co-Founder, Senior Managing Director and Head of M&A

Lenny is a co-founder of Focus and is based in San Francisco. He is responsible for acquisition and relationship management activities across the firm, with an emphasis on North American initiatives. In addition, Lenny advises and works closely with several Focus partner firms to strategically advance and grow their businesses.

Prior to Focus, Lenny was with the Boston Consulting Group, where he worked on a range of assignments for institutional asset management and financial brokerage firms. Lenny has also worked at American Express in the Strategy and Business Development Group, and at private equity firm Frontline Capital.

In his free time, Lenny enjoys many activities with his wife and three young sons, including golf, basketball and skiing.

Lenny received his MBA from Harvard Business School and his BS in Economics with dual concentration in Finance and Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Rusty McGranahan

General Counsel

Rusty has served as General Counsel since August 2015, overseeing legal matters for the company, including its acquisition activity and assisting partner firms with their legal issues.

From 2006 to 2015, Rusty was a Managing Director, M&A Counsel and Corporate Secretary at BlackRock. Prior to joining BlackRock, Rusty was counsel in the mergers and acquisitions and corporate departments of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. Rusty began his career as a corporate associate with White & Case, LLP and for three years was based in Eastern Europe.

In his free time, Rusty enjoys a number of activities with his wife and three children, including their many sporting events. Rusty is an avid runner and triathlete himself, having completed a number of marathons and two Ironman triathlons.

Rusty received his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School and his Bachelor of Arts in economics and world politics from the Catholic University of America. He has also earned the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.

Jim Shanahan

Chief Financial Officer

Jim oversees corporate finance and accounting for Focus. He has served as Chief Financial Officer since 2006.

From 2001 to 2006, Jim served in the Chief Financial Officer/Vice President of Operations roles for Sybari Software, a software security company that became a subsidiary of Microsoft in 2005. Prior to Microsoft, Jim was with PricewaterhouseCoopers from 1992 to 2001 where he last served as a Senior Audit Manager.

When not working, Jim spends time with his wife, two sons and daughter, and coaches basketball. He enjoys playing sports when he’s not coaching them.

Jim is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Master of Business Administration/Bachelor of Business Administration from Hofstra University. Additionally, Jim is a Chartered Financial Consultant and Personal Financial Specialist.
